DG rescue reviews rescuers performance of October

Lahore: Director General, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122), Dr Rizwan Naseer carried out a performance review of emergency operations in all 36 Districts of Punjab to ensure uniform standard of the Service. The emergency data showed that 52629 victims of emergencies were rescued by Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) while conducting 47682 rescue operations in October all over the Punjab, with the average response time of 07 minutes.

The emergency calls to which Rescue 1122 responded include: 19327 road traffic accidents, 20794 medical emergencies, 626 fire incidents, 1897 crimes, 74 drowning incidents, 33 building collapses, 12 explosions and 4919 miscellaneous operations. The Provincial Monitoring Cell informed the meeting that 217 people including males; females and children died during 19327 road traffic crashes in Punjab in October. Furthermore, Rescue 1122 shifted 14817 seriously injured to different hospitals and provided first aid to 6603 victims of RTAs on the spot. The PMC further briefed that a major RTA was reported in Bahawalpur where an air conditioned bus turned turtle; causing instant death of 07 people and 17 others sustained multiple injuries. The PMC said that three major drowning cases were reported involving two deaths each in Layya; Chiniot and Narowal Districts.

While presiding over a meeting of emergency officers/ officials at Rescue 1122 Headquarters, DG Rescue Punjab Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that these accidents are preventable with effective enforcement of laws. He said the Service was responding to average 500 road traffic crashes on daily basis, which affect average 600 persons, mostly young breadwinners of the society. Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that mostly emergencies can be reduced significantly through proper implementation of building byelaws; fire safety codes, abiding by traffic rules and other laws. “Rescue 1122 is there to rescue you, but please don’t put your lives in risk in living unsafe buildings, without having proper fire safety arrangements,” he added.

These 47682 rescue operations in October include: 8038 rescue operations in Lahore, 1548 in Rawalpindi, 4714 in Faisalabad, 2893 in Multan, 3097 in Gujranwala, 1680 in Bahawalpur, 1240 in Sargodha, 1726 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 1740 in Sahiwal, 983 in Sialkot, 1788 in Rahim Yar Khan, 379 in Murree, 1551 in Jhang, 1612 in Khanewal, 842 in Rajanpur, 893 in Muzafargarh, 708 in Gujrat, 830 in Bahawalnagar, 561 in Attock, 370 in Jehlum, 734 in Toba Tek Singh, 673 in Pakpattan, 507 in Mianwali, 676 in Kasur, 698 in Vehari, 290 in Chakwal, 788 in Okara, 530 in Hafizabad, 1223 in Sheikhupura, 916 in Lodhran, 263 in Nankana Sahib, 550 in Khushab, 355 in Mandibaha-ud-din, 682 in Narowal, 582 in Layyah, 567 in Bhakkar and 455 in Chiniot.
