Musawwar Hayat wins the first Pentathlon Championship

Lahore: Musawwar Hayat of Punjab, with 513 points, won the first Pentathlon Championship at Punjab Football Stadium here on Tuesday. The second position went to Abdul Aziz of Wapda, who got 489 points followed by Punjab’s Zubair Ahmed, who finished third with 422 points.

The championship was held under the aegis of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) and Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF). Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, who was the chief guest on this occasion, distributed prizes among the prominent performers. Riaz Fitiyana President Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF), Syed Tahir Fawad, Senior Vice President (PMPF), Michael Janca of Czech Republic, Mian Safdar Hussain and Ch Zahoor Ahmed were also present on this occasion.

Athletes took part in the swimming and athletics competitions thus turning the championship into a biathlon event. The athletes from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KPK), Wapda, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad featured in the championship.

Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, in his address as chief guest said that the future of pentathlon was bright in Pakistan. “The way SBP and Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF) organized the event in a successful manner, now there is no doubt about the prospects of this new game in our country,” he added. DG SBP also appreciated the performance of young athletes in the swimming and athletics events and expressed his hope that these athletes will earn several laurels for the country in future.

Highlighting the role of Sports Board Punjab in games promotion throughout the country, Usman Anwar said that nobody can deny the excellent services rendered by the Sports Board Punjab. “Our athletes are winning titles not only within the country but also on foreign land as well. Who can forget Muhammad Saadi and Muhammad Rashid who represented Pakistan in Guinness World Record Show held in Milan, Italy a couple of months ago. The highly talented duo was trained and prepared by Sports Board Punjab for the high profile Guinness event,” he elaborated.
