Excise Inspectors Ahmed Ali, Javed Iqbal and Shahbaz suspended for overbilling

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation and Finance Punjab, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has issued orders for immediate suspension of three Excise Inspectors Ahmed Ali, Javed Iqbal and Shahbaz on the complaints of overbilling and also ordered administrative inquiry. He directed high-ups of the department to conduct audit of the notices of property tax wrongly issued to the people. He said that strict disciplinary action be taken against the officials after audit who included rural areas in the list of rating area by misusing their power.

He was presiding over a high level meeting of Excise & Taxation Department. Secretary Excise & Taxation Khalid Masood Chuadhary, Director General Ahmed Aziz Tarar, Directors and other officials were present on the occasion.

Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that those sending wrong bills regarding property tax to the people will not be spared and sent to jails.He asked the citizens to contact officials of the department or helpline immediately in case the increase in their property tax amount was more than 50 percent. He said that administrative and legal action will be taken against those who sent illegal notices to the people.

He directed the officials of the department to immediately give advertisements in national newspapers regarding the details of property tax for the facility of the people and set up facilitation centers at all chambers of commerce. He directed Divisional Directors of Excise Department that they and their subordinate officers and staff should personally contact the citizens and inform them about the increase and payment of property tax. He also directed that notices of property tax should not be issued in the residential areas outside urban limits. He said that immediate disciplinary action would be taken against the officers and officials who illegally issued notices of property tax to the people.
