54 Infants died due to substandard medicines in DHQ Hospital, Bahawalnagar

dr zahid pervaizInfant died due to substandard medicines in BahawalnagarLahore: At least 54 children have been reported dead in Bahawalnagar District Headquarter Hospital during last fifteen days due to use of substandard medicines.

According to the Dunya News families of the deceased staged protest against the hospital’s management, and demanded strict action against the accused.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent Fiaz Anwar held Executive District Officer health responsible for the deaths, saying procurements of all the medicines had been made by the EDO.

Health Department Punjab has constituted a 2-Member committee for investigation of death of children due to alleged use of substandard medicines in District Headquarters Hospital, Bahawalnagar.

According to DG Health Punjab Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Director Health Headquarters, Dr. Jamil Chaudhry and Director Pharmacy Tashfeen have immediately left for Bahawalnagar for investigation of this incident.

The Chief Minister has directed Commissioner Bahawalpur to arrange laboratory tests of medicines being used in Children Ward of DHQ Hospital Bahawalnagar whereas the Chief Minister has also issued instructions for conducting audit of DHQ Hospital Bahawalnagar by Punjab Healthcare Commission so that action could be taken against the persons responsible.
