Minister admits over billing in September electricity bill

Pervaiz Rasheed press conference 22-9-14Lahore: Minister for state water and power Abid Sher Ali has admitted that electricity consumers are over charged in September bills,it would not be happened without the help of the concerned officers,PM has ordered to review the bills and give money back to the consumers.

This was stated by Abid Sher Ali in a press conference along with minister for information and broadcast Pervaiz Rasheed arranged for cabinet meeting briefing for the media. Abid Sher Ali said those who would be liable for overbilling taken to task after inquiry.Addition units would be reduced in the next electricity bills,he added.

Pervaiz Rasheed said that PM Nawaz Sharif has lifted a ban on recruitment’s in government-run departments.Jobs would be offered only on merit through a transparent system,he added.For this purpose, the Prime Minister has constituted a Cabinet Committee to oversee the entire process.

The minister said that Four major decisions have been made at the meeting of federal cabinet,Rs25, 000 would be given to each family affected by the recent floods before Eid ul Adha,a survey is under way to assess the damages caused by the floods as government will compensate for the losses.

He said the third decision was made about giving legal protection to minimum wage,the minimum wage for a laborer is Rs12, 000 a month and those who do not pay the minimum wages would be dealt according to the law.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the Cabinet also approved a mechanism for adjustment of inflated electricity bills for last month.

Senator Pervaiz Rashid said Federal and Provincial Governments would share fifty percent cost of cash grant of twenty-five thousand rupees to the flood affected people. He said besides this, the Federal Government would also compensate for the losses of crops and assist in reconstruction of partially or fully damaged houses as well as loss of cattle heads.

He said a damage assessment survey is already underway as per instructions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The Minister said the Prime Minister had assigned Advisor to the Ministry of Water and Power Dr. Musaddaq the responsibility to probe complaints of excessive electricity billing last month. The Advisor presented his report in the Cabinet tomorrow.

The Cabinet decided that excess charges of consumers of up to 200 units who received more bills as compared to same month last year would be adjusted in the next bill. Overbilling of consumers of over 200 units would also be adjusted after verification if there is five percent increase in their bills for the month as compared to same month last year.
