Government College University, Lahore is holding six international conferences

GCULahore: The Government College University, Lahore is holding six international conferences, including on ‘Local Representation of Power in South Asia’ and ‘Physics and Contemporary Needs’, in connection with its 150 years celebrations. It was announced by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman while addressing a meeting of organizing committees of these conferences. GCU Dean Prof Dr Islam Ullah Khan and Registrar Dr Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rahman said that hundreds of eminent scholars from all over the world were coming to GCU to present their papers in these conferences which were aimed at providing platform to scientists, academicians, researchers, social reformers and students to indulge in meaningful dialogues, exchange their ideas and share their experiences so as to contribute towards efficient development and improved policy making.

According to details, the GCU Chemistry Department is organising the first ever international conference on ‘Forensic Science and Justice’ in Pakistan in collaboration with the Punjab Forensic Science Agency from October 24, 2014. This key conference will address critical issues including ‘Lie Detector Test Reliability’, ‘Scientific vs. Oral Testimony’, ‘Designer Drugs and Legislation’, ‘Forensic Accounting’, ‘DNA’ and ‘Wrongful Convictions’.

The GCU Political Science Department is all set to host the international conference on ‘Local Representation of Power in South Asia’ which is aimed at exploring various forms of local representation of power in South Asia, their degree of success in providing public services and safety, their role in arbitration and adjudication, and the issues like electoral process, administrative capacity, financial autonomy, and accountability of local governments.

An international conference on ‘Physics and Contemporary Needs (ICPCN-2014)’ will also be held at GCU Physics Department from November 19, 2014 in collaboration with Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad and Higher Education Commission. Eminent Physicist and GCU Professor Rafi Chair Dr Muhammad Zakria Butt is appointed the conference chairman.

The GCU Botany Department is also holding three-day international conference on Plant Sciences from September 22, 2014. Prof Dr Xiukun Lin from China and Dr Job.N Nimadu from Nigeria have arrived in Lahore to attend the conference.

Two international conferences are scheduled to be held in the month of November at GCU on “Colonial and post-colonial Punjab” and “Biotechnology for Sustainable Development”.

Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman said that these six conferences would also provide opportunities to young Pakistani scholars to interact with well-known scientists and academicians from abroad and learn from their knowledge and experiences.
