SBP announces to hold a kabaddi training camp from September 20, 2014

kabaddiLahore: Sports Board Punjab (SBP) has announced to hold a kabaddi training camp for the preparation of Kabaddi World Cup and key encounters of World Kabaddi League at Punjab Stadium from September 20, 2014.

This decision was taken in a meeting of SBP officials here on Tuesday at SBP offices. Waqas Akbar, the manager of Lahore Lions Kabaddi team, Media Manager Abdur Rauf Roofi, Head Coach Ghulam Abbas Butt and trainer Ch M Siddique attended the meeting which was convened on the directive of Director General SBP Usman Anwar.

Media Manager Abdur Rauf Roofi told the media persons that 70 leading performers of National Kabaddi Championship have been invited for the camp. The camp will be organized under the supervision of Waqas Akbar and Ghulam Abbas Butt. “The camp trainees will also play practice matches to sharpen their Kabaddi skills. After the completion of camp training, 35 players will be short listed for the Kabaddi World Cup being staged from December 5 to 15, 2014,” he added.

Roofi further informed that the prominent players of camp will also be given chances in the ongoing World Kabaddi League matches. “The players will be imparted training in two sessions daily at the camp. The first session will be conducted from 5.00am to 8.00am in which the probables will undergo physical training while the second session will be held from 3.00pm to 7.00pm,” he explained. All the players have been asked to report to Head Coach Ghulam Abbas Butt on September 20, he said.

Waqas Akbar, the manager of Lahore Lions Kabaddi team, told that the pool of kabaddi players will also be expanded after the training camp. “We will manage to prepare a perfect back up for the national Kabaddi team through this hectic activity,” he described.
