Photo CPE 01 {Sep11-14} Photo CPE 02 {Sep11-14}Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi visited flood-hit areas of Qadirabad, Mandi Bahauddin, and distributed 15 days ration and tents among the flood-effected people of 14 villages.

Talking to media on this occasion he said that nobody was bothering about flood-affected people who want relief and not just coming and going of the rulers, the govt has not yet announced exemption from agricultural loans taxes despite devastation of thousands of villages and crops over lakhs of acres and killing of large number of livestock, the rulers were witnessing their destruction from helicopters, peoples’ problems would be solved only when these senseless and dramatist rulers go.

During the visit to the flood-hit areas, Ch Parvez Elahi was accompanied by Riaz Asghar Chaudhry, Sajid Bhatti, Arif Gondal, Mujahid Bhatti, Zulqarnain, Qaiser Bhatti and other leaders. Flood-hit people were visibly moved and happy on seeing Ch Parvez Elahi among them, they expressed gratitude to him and chanted slogans of long live Ch Shujat Hussain, Ch Parvez Elahi and Moonis Elahi. Some elderly women and men prayed for them on receiving ration.

Ch Parvez Elahi said that we had got constructed Qadirabad embankment at a cost of Rs 40 crore in district Mandi Bahauddin but Shahbaz Sharif had not spent even a single rupee on it in seven years as a result of which Qadirabad and surrounding areas had been greatly effected. He said the Chief Meteorologist had informed Punjab Govt in advance that there was threat of great devastation by severe floods but they had made no preparations in this regard, now they were visiting the effected areas for photo sessions and not for providing assistance and relief to the effected people, relief camps set up during their visits were uprooted after the tour was completed. He said now they do not get down from their helicopters out of fear the people would catch them by their collars and question them, large number of villages were still not possible to reach, rulers were doing nothing except leveling allegations and talking non-sense, they were not seeing peoples problems.

Continuing Ch Parvez Elahi said had they implemented Justice Mansoor Shah Commission report of 2010 then the losses might have been somewhat lesser, they had dumped the funds meant for protective embankments into jangla bus because of which there was shortage of medicines today in the flood-hit areas, various diseases were spreading, the govt was not being able to control the situation, they should have constructed dams instead of dumping Rs 80 billion into metro bus. He pointedly stated that during our five years tenure we had got constructed 36 small dams in Jhelum, Attock and Pothohar and worked for the welfare and well-being of common and the poor. He said no survey was being conducted to assess the losses suffered by the farmers and effected families, wheat and rice stored by the people had also been washed away by flood water and now they were left with no food items to eat and drink.

In response to a question, Ch Parvez Elahi said that Shahbaz Sharif was telling lie when he said there was no advance warning of flood, this was a lie similar to his saying that he had come to know about Model Town tragedy afterwards. He said by releasing huge flood water Indian Prime Minister Modi had proved his friendship with Nawaz Sharif, there was economic, political and financial crisis today in the country because of the rulers because of which there was danger of unemployment and famine, favourites of the rulers had got cuts in the protective embankments of their choice in order to save their lands and properties, Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif liked to constitute a commission for every problem, they should also set up a commission on no encashment till now of relief cheques given to the flood-hit people in 2010, Pak army and 1122 set up during our tenure were providing assistance and help today to the flood-effected people. He said to the flood-hit people that they had secured victory for us in elections 2013 even risking their life, today in this difficult time we are standing with you, we would come again and again and make every possible effort to minimize their sorrows and provide them every help and assistance.
