Lahore: Former Olympian Asif Dar strongly criticized the officials of  the sports board and Pakistan Olympic Association for poor performance of the Pakistani Squad in the youth Olympic Games held at Nanjing, China.

He said our youth contingent has failed to win a single medal in the youth Olympic Games, thus following the footsteps of their seniors who have failed to win a medal in consecutive five Olympic Games held in last two decades.

Similarly, our juniors in all the sports have never impressed at international level. In the last Commonwealth Games, tiny islands like Kiribati and Granada having populations in thousands won Gold Medals. Whereas, our players representing around 20 Crore people failed to win a single Gold.

Above facts clearly indicate that not only our present is dark but our future too is not bright. Despite these poor showings, around 300 officials and players are fastening seat belts to reach South Korea for participation in the 17th Asian Games.

It has become a practice since years that before participation in such events our players and officials make tall claims but when they come back after giving pathetic performance they always start giving lame excuses. Instead of crying later, let us weigh expected performance of our Korea bound contingent which looks as follow.

It is not out of context to mention that many of the oil rich countries who have much higher ranking in football than Pakistan are not participating in the Asian Games to save foreign exchange. Whereas, Pakistan football team which has hardly won one match per Asian Games is going there just to face another humiliation. In fact, this large scale participation in more than 20 sports is bribe to respective federation officials to win their vote in the coming Pakistan Olympic Association elections.

Keeping in view the present unrest in the country due to floods, load shedding, unemployment, poverty, hunger this mammoth joyriding is criminal which should be stopped at any cost. As concerned ministry, Pakistan Sports Board, Pakistan Olympic Association and sports federations are part of this joyriding no one will stop the joy riders from going there.  Under these circumstances, Supreme Court of Pakistan is requested to take suo moto notice of this criminal act on the part of concerned officials and stop such leisure trips till our sportsmen are fit to perform well at international level.
