Khanzada directs environment officers to check tyreshops, junckyards, nurseries

Minister EnvirmentLahore: Provincial Minister for Environment Col.(Retd) Shuja Khanzada has directed environment officers to specially check tyreshops, junckyards, nurseries and under-construction buildings for eradication of dengue and send report on daily basis.

He issued these instructions while presiding over a special meeting regarding eradication of dengue in the office of Secretary Environment here today. Parliamentary Secretary Kh.Imran Nazir, Secretary Environment Iqbal Muhammad Chauhan, Director General Environment Farooq Hameed Sheikh and district officers from all over the province attended the meeting. Shuja Khanzada said that the number of dengue squads has been increased from 7 to 9 in Lahore for controlling dengue whereas dengue squads have already been constituted in all big districts of the province. He stressed upon the heads of dengue squads present in the meeting to accelerate their activities and work on war footing for eradication of dengue.

The Provincial Minister directed all district environment officers present in the meeting to ensure hundred percent implementation of SOPs issued from the office of Secretary Environment in connection with overcoming dengue. He also directed to hold seminars and workshops for creating public awareness regarding dengue virus and display banners at public places. Shuja Khanzada said that he himself and special squads headed by MPAs will also pay surprise visits to various cities. He stressed upon officers to take immediate action against concerned persons in case dengue larva is found and register cases under dengue regulations.

Parliamentary Secretary Kh.Imran Nazir said that reminders should be sent to all offices of federal and provincial government departments in the province to check the stores and godowns in their offices and send report to Environment Department. He said that in case of larva, strict action should be taken against the concerned departments.

Secretary Environment Iqbal Muhammad Chauhan directed the officers to check junkyards set up in open places and in case of dengue larva, carry out fogging and anti-dengue spray and seal these places and register cases against the persons responsible.
