TURKISH DELEGATION VISITS LIVESTOCK FARMS

Khawaja Ahmad HisaanLahore: A delegation from Turkey visited Livestock and Dairy Development Department’s farm of cows of Sahiwal breed at Jehangirabad.

Later, the members of the delegation attended an informative session at the farm of a progressive breeder of Sahiwal cow, Sirdar Aftab Ahmed Wattoo in private sector. Secretary Livestock Naseem Sadiq, Director General (Extension) Dr. Muhammad Nawaz Saeed and Additional Secretary (Technical) Dr. Sanaullah Bhatti were also present on the occasion. Dr. Javed Ahmed Director RCCSC Jhang gave a detailed briefing about Sahiwal breed of cows.

Secretary Livestock told the delegation that the farming of Sahiwal breed of cows was started in Punjab in 1914 by the forefathers of Sirdar Aftab Ahmed Wattoo. He told that as a result of research and collaboration of private and public sector such a breed of livestock has been developed which produces a large quantity of milk and can face different weather conditions.

Government of Pakistan also issued a commemorative stamp on Sahiwal cows on the completion of one hundred years period from 1914 to 2014. The members of the delegation also visited the modern dairy farm of prominent progressive breeder Mumtaz Khan Manhais at Tiba Sultanpur, Vehari.

The Turkish delegation expressed its interest in the joint research projects for the development of livestock. The delegation will also visit Islamia University Bahawalpur.
