ARMY, WAPDA and NBP have won their matches

HockeyLahore: ARMY, WAPDA and NBP have won their matches on the second day of the ongoing All Pakistan NBP Hockey Tournament at the National Hockey Stadium here on Friday. ARMY beat HEC 2-0, WAPDA beat PAF 4-2 and NBP defeated Railways 6-1.

Two beautiful field goals by forward Abdul Jabbar helped Army to beat Higher Education Commission (HEC) 2-0 in the opening match. Army dominated the proceedings since the start of play and made a successful move to take the lead in the first minute of the match. Jabbar, who received a pass near the D, successfully dribbled and dodge the goalkeeper to score the first goal for his team. In the 20th minute Jabbar made an individual effort and dodged three defenders to enter the D to score the second goal for his team.

HEC players awaked from deep slumber in the third half and effectively checked Army’s attacks. They defended their fort in the last quarter as well and thwarted Army’s moves to score further. However, they failed to convert any of the three penalty corners they got in the match. Army also couldn’t convert any of the six penalty corners. Afsaar Ali and Mohammed Shahid supervised the match.

Two goals by Zubair Riaz guided WAPDA to beat PAF 4-2 in the second match of the day. Mushtaq of PAF surprised their opponents to convert a penalty corner in the second minute, but WAPDA bounced back in the 8th minute to level the score through a field goal by Mohammed Adnan. In the second quart Zubair Riaz scored his second goal on penalty corner in the 17th minute. Four minutes later Mushtaq scored another goal to level the score 2-2. In the 29th minute WAPDA was awarded a penalty corner through individual effort of forward Khurram Shehzad and Mohammed Javaid made no mistake to convert it into the third goal for his team. In the 35thminute WAPDA’s captain Mohammed Imran made a move and earned a penalty corner which was successfully converted by Zubair. Mohammed Sohail and Munir Ahmed were the field umpires.

NBP thrashed Railways 6-1 in a one sided last match of the day. Railways took the lead in the 6th minute to score their lone goal through Rizwan but only a minute later NBP’s Captain Olympian Akhtar Ali levelled the score through a beautiful field goal. Amir scored the second goal for the bankers in the 16th minute to give them 2-1 lead. Three minutes later Full-Back Attique scored the third goal on a penalty corner. Ayyub strengthened his team’s position to score the fourth goal in the 33rd minute. Kashif Javed and Bilal Qadir made a beautiful move amid perfect passing and entered into the D where Bilal gave a pass to Sabtain who netted the fifth goal for his team in the 47th minute. Attique scored the sixth, his second, goal in the 54th minute on a penalty corner. Mir Hamza and Asghar Ali supervised the match.
