Sanjog is working for the children’s rights : Rana Arshad

Parliamentary Secretary Rana ArshadLahore: Parliamentary Secretary Information & Culture Rana Muhammad Arshad has said that the Punjab government is seriously trying to implement the laws regarding protection of rights of children with the cooperation of concerned departments.

He said this while addressing a workshop held under the auspices of Sanjog Pakistan regarding implementation of children’s rights through improving role of prosecutors and probation officers. Member Provincial Assembly Dr. Nosheen Hamid, Probation Officers, lawyers and representatives of NGOs were present on the occasion.

Rana Muhammad Arshad apprised the workshop about the laws introduced by the Punjab government especially regarding education and training of child prisoners.

Senior Project Officer Hafiza Tayyeba Javed said that with the enforcement of Juvenile Justice System Ordinance 2000, better opportunities have been created for improving judicial matters regarding the children.

Advocacy Officer Sanjog Memona Tahir said that the jailed children do not enjoy their special rights which include education, health and other facilities. She said that it has been clearly mentioned in Juvenile Justice System Ordinance 2000 that separate courts will be set up to hear the cases regarding children but this ordinance could not be implemented.

Rana Muhammad Arshad appreciated the positive role of Sanjog regarding children’s rights and reiterated that maximum efforts will be made for implementation of the laws regarding rights of children.
