FFC donates Rs 3 million for eye screening of schoolchildren

Al Shifa Lahore: Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital has received a donation of Rs 3 million from Fauji Fertilizer Company Ltd. (FFC) aimed at improving screening process of the schoolchildren and provision of quality eye care services to the poor patients in the remote areas.

The money would be used to purchase latest electro medical equipment which will improve the screening procedure and strengthen the capacity of the trust to directly benefit thousands of deserving patients and students who are unable to visit hospitals.

In this connection, a delegation from FFC headed by Brig. Munawar Hayat Khan Niazi (Retd) visited Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Rawalpindi and met with the President of the trust Lt. Gen. Hamid Javaid (Retd).

President of the trust appraised the delegation about various on-going activities of the Trust and told them that the trust has boosted its outreach programme by doubling the target of patient screening from existing about 75,000 patients to 150,000 patients during the year.

He said that apart from eye screening, the ENT screening of school going children has also been planned as this area needs special attention.

Lt. Gen. Hamid Javed (Retd) added that schoolchildren must undergo routine hearing and vision tests because even a minor deficiency can affect a child’s ability to learn in a very significant way which is not acceptable.

At the occasion, Brig. Munawar Hayat lauded the selfless services of the trust and promised to support the initiative to serve the humanity.

The delegation praised the Al-Shifa Centre for Community Ophthalmology which is engaged in extensive school screening and providing eye care services to the patients at their doorstep in far-flung areas.
