JI questions state attitude in Musharraf case

Liaqat-Baloch-addresses-a-Press-ConferenceLahore: Secretary General, Jamaat  e Islami, Liaqat Baloch , has questioned the absence of the government counsel in the petition seeking removal of Pervez Musharraf’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL)  during the hearing on Thursday.

In a statement here, he said that the Sindh High Court decision on the issue was in line with the law and the constitution but the government must explain why its counsel did not appear during the hearing. And the next question was whether the government would file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court verdict or not?

Liaqat Baloch remarked that Mian Nawaz Sharif and Zardari could have lunch together for mutual interest but their parties started blaming each other in any critical situation.

Liaqat Baloch said that Pervez Musharraf was being tried under article 6 of the constitution and if the government allowed the former military dictator to go abroad before the final decision of the court, it would have negative consequences and create the impression that there were different laws for the poor and the influential.

The JI Secretary General further deplored the blame game between the federal and the Sindh governments in regard to the terrorist attack at Karachi airport.  -He said for the masses, it was of least importance whether the responsibility rested with the federal government or the Sindh government but the bitter fact was that there was huge loss of life while both the governments remained unmoved.
