A delegation of family physicians calls on Mujtaba Shuja

Mujtaba ShujaLahore: Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation and Finance, Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman has said that government is using all available resources for providing better healthcare facilities to the people especially mother & child in the province and the priority areas of the targets are rural folk. He said that government has increased health budget on yearly basis and at least seven percent budget for health sector will be increased in next fiscal year’s budget.

While talking to a delegation of family physicians,Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman said that the government considers the dignity of the prestigious medical profession and will redress all the major problems being faced by the medical community including paramedics. He said that doctors, nurses, paramedics specially the LHWs, LHVs and midwives plays pivotal role in provision of the healthcare facilities to the people in rural areas.

He said that focus of the Provincial Government is upon Primary and Protective Health Care so that to achieve the millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He said that Health Insurance Scheme is being launched with a cost of Rs.4 billion. The Minister said that three Drug Testing Laboratories (DTL) are being established at Multan, Rawalpindi and Lahore besides two Food Testing Laboratories will be setup at Faisalabad and Rawalpindi and the government has provided Rs. 15 crore for this purpose.

He said that an amount of Rs.102 billion are being utilized on the provision of health facilities which is 10.9 percent of the total budget

Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman said that community midwifery homes were being established in remote areas so that infants and mothers could be saved from fatal diseases. He said the MMR in LHWs covered area is 147/100,000 live births, compared 300 to 350/100,000 to uncovered areas, therefore, the LHWs, LHVs and the community midwives were being appointed at all the health centers in remote areas, he added.

He said that revolutionary steps have been taken by Punjab government through re-engineering of resources in the field of education and health so that modern educational as well as latest medical facilities could be provided to the people at their door step.
