Punjab government decides minimum wages law for 51 new industries

Punjab Government LogoLahore: Punjab government has decided to include 51 new industrial and commercial categories including electronic & print media, private hospitals, schools and colleges in the minimum wages law.

Labour Department has sent a summary of recommendations for approval to Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif which, after approval, will be implemented through a formal notification.

Secretary Labour and Human Resource Capt. (R) Muhammad Yousaf presided over a meeting of Minimum Wages Board. Commissioner Social Security Farhan Aziz Khawaja, DG Labour Welfare Hasnaat Javed, representatives of employees, labourers and senior officers of Labour Department attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that the law of minimum wages was enforced in 1961 but Labour Department has not complete power to check every department. Therefore, Labour Department has sent its recommendations to Chief Minister Punjab to include 51 new industrial and commercial categories in minimum wages law.

After approval by the Chief Minister Punjab, Labour Department will ensure implementation of minimum wages law in 102 organizations.
