First South Asia Labour Conference will start tomorrow

Minister Labour 23-4-14Lahore: First South Asia Labour Conference will start today at Lahore which will be formally inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Labour Ministers from Sri Lanka, Maldeves, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and high level delegations from India, Nepal and Bhotan will attend this conference.

Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resources Raja Ashfq Sarwar received the Sri Lankan Labour Minister Gamini Lokuge, Sri Lankan High Commissioner Air Chief Marshall (R) Jayalath Weerakkody and delegation at Lahore Airpot.

Bangladeshi Federal Minister for Labour and Employment Mujeeb ul Haq along with eight-member delegation while Deputy Minister for Labour Affairs Afghanistan accompanied by six-member delegation will arrive today (Thursday) at Lahore.

ILO experts, representatives of European Union while labour experts, NGOs, employers and labours from Southa Asian Countries have already reached Lahore to attend the Conference. International Labour Laws, Labour Migration, important issues and joint platform for the welfare of labourers at regional level will be discussed by the high level delegations and other stakeholders from India, Nepal and Bhotan.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will present a resolution based on unanimous viewpoint of South Asian Countries regarding promotion of economy in the region, enhancing opportunities for South Asian labourers in international market and legislation in the concluding session.

The members of the delegations will also attend cultural functions at Expo Center Lahore besides witnessing exhibition of handicrafts of skilled labourers and women workers of all the four provinces.

SAARC Chambers of Commerce, labour unions, employers, industrialists and intellectuals from education, civil society and other walks of life will participate in the conference.
