Army (Red) and PIA won their matches on the second day

Lahore: Army (Red) and PIA have won their matches on the second day of the 9^th Nishan-e-Haider Hockey Tournament at the Mutiullah AstroTurf Hockey Stadium. Army (Red) beat Railways 7-3 while PIA defeated Army (White) 8-1.

Two goals each by Shahid Ali Khan and national team Mohammed Imran enabled Army (Red) to register a comfortable win against Railways. Army’s Shahid opened the account for his team in the 7^th minute through a field goal. Only three minutes later Railways’ Yasir successfully converted a penalty corner in the 10^th minute to level the score. Mohammed Imran neatly netted a penalty corner in the 22^nd minute to give his team a 2-1 lead which was again equaled by a beautiful field goal by 

Railways’ Junaid in the 24^thminute. Army scored two goals in a span of three minutes to end the first half at 4-2. Shahid scored a goal on penalty corner in the 32^nd minute while Habib-ur-Rehman scored a field goal in the 35^th minute.

Railways’ forwards failed to maintain their tempo in the second half as Army men frequently made inroads into Railways’ area and scored three more goals. Mohammad Imran converted another penalty corner in the 44^th minute, Mohammed Kashif scored a field goal in the 57^th minute while Mohammed Safeer netted the seventh goal for Army in the 63^rd minute. Kamran Maqsood scored the third goal for Railways in the 60^th minute. Munawar Hussain and Mohammed Mushtaq supervised the match.

PIA comprising of experienced Olympians and internationals beat Army (White) in the second match of the day. It was a one–sided encounter in which the PIA forwards dominated the proceedings of the match since beginning. Two goals by Ahsanullah on penalty corners in the 4^th and 7^thminutes respectively exerted pressure on their opponents. Ammad Butt and Imran Khan scored field goals in the 18^th and 25^thminutes respectively. PIA score four more goals in the second half. Imran Khan scored a field goal in the 38^th minute. Ahsanullah completed hat-trick of his goals in the 46^thminute. Nohaiz and Afsar scored field goals in the 58^th and 60^th minutes respectively. Army’s consolatory goal was scored by Nouman Butt in the 65^th minute. Haider Rasool and Atif Malik supervised the match.
