PML-N government believes in free media: Raja Ashfaq Sarwar

Minister Labour at press club 21-4-14Lahore: Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resources, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said that Labour Ministers of more than eight countries, representatives of ILO, European Union, Employers & Employees and federal and provincial institutions will discuss international labour laws, enforcement of standards, labour migration, child labour, forced labour and other affairs of labourers in the South Asia Labour Conference.

He expressed these views while talking to media representatives at Lahore Press Club, here today. Members Punjab Assembly Saira Iftikhar, Waheed Gul, Hina Pervez Butt, President LPC Arshad Ansari and General Secretary Shahbaz Mian were also present on the occasion.

President LPC Arshad Ansari welcomed Raja Ashfaq Sarwar in the press club and apprised him of problems of journalists’ community and presented positive suggestions.

Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resources, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said that Labour Ministers of more than eight countries, representatives of ILO, European Union, Employers & Employees and federal and provincial institutions will discuss international labour laws, enforcement of standards, labour migration, child labour, forced labour and other affairs of labourers in the South Asia Labour Conference.

He said that journalists are also workers and efforts will be made for providing them social security facilities through their registration. He condemned attack on Hamid Mir.

The Minister while informing about the aims and objectives of South Asia Labour Conference said that labour ministers from Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Maldives and high level delegations from Bhutan and Nepal will participate in the conference. He said that President Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan will also attend the conference.

He said that positive suggestions were sought through consultative seminars of stakeholders in Sindh, Balochistan, KPK before the conference so that these could be presented on the platform of South Asia Labour Conference. He said that media wall and media centers have also been set up for the facility of media while press briefings will also be given to the journalists daily at 4.30 pm during the three days of the conference.

He said that highlighting positive image of Pakistan through South Asia Labour Conference is a national service which will bring a good name to Pakistan in the world. He said that efforts will be made for the registration of journalists in accordance with international and national laws.

He also informed about the facilities being provided to the labourers through Labour and Human Resource Department including registration, imparting non-formal education to the children of kiln workers, adult education and health facilities. He said that efforts of present government for improving the working condition of labourers have also been appreciated in an American report.
