Lahore: Advisor to the Chief Minister on Health Kh. Salman Rafique has said that all the EDOs Health are responsible for the development of Health Sector and they should work for the success of different health programmes being run at district level. He said that government is spending more than one hundred billion rupees for the development of Health Sector in the province and the officers have to fulfill their responsibilities with dedication and with missionary spirit for the benefit of common man.
He stated this while addressing the monthly review meeting of EDOs Health at DG Health Office, here on Tuesday. Secretary Health Dr. Ijaz Munir, DG Health Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Directors of EPI, MNCH, AIDS Control Programme, Lady Health Workers Programme and EDOs Health of all the districts attended the meeting.
Kh. Salman Rafique directed that senior officers should monitor the performance of their subordinate staff. He said that bogus and flattering reporting should not be sent to the department for showing performance. He warned that action will be taken against the officers / officials who send bogus data regarding EPI coverage. He directed that inventory of out of order and under repair medical equipments / machinery should be prepared and sent to the department so that it could be got repaired or replaced.
Kh. Salman Rafique directed that all the Districts Officers should pay full attention for improving EPI routine coverage, polio eradication, Mother & Child Health Programme, Dengue and Influenza Control. He said that their work must be visible on the ground. He directed that cleanliness must be ensured in all public sector hospitals.
Kh. Salman Rafique directed that a vigorous campaign against spurious drugs and quackery must be launched at district level and Drug Inspectors should show their performance in this campaign. He directed that EDOs Health should monitor the activities of Drug Inspectors. He disclosed that necessary amendments are to be introduced in the laws for enhancing punishment for the culprits involved in the business of spurious drugs and quackery.
While addressing the meeting, Secretary Health Dr. Ijaz Munir said that improvement in Primary Healthcare is the top priority of the government and he himself would focus on uplifting of primary health system. Therefore, Districts Health Officers should focus on improving performance of health centres and eradication of dengue, polio and influenza. Secretary Health said that every EDO Health should develop at least one BHU and one RHC as Model Health Centre. He directed that the officers should ensure availability of medicines at health centres. He further said that every officer has to work very hard to achieve MDGs.
Secretary Health said that he will also visit different districts to review the performance of the officers and EDOs would have to submit performance and implementation reports on health programmes.
