Academic Staff Association demands removal of DG LDA

Ahad CheemaLahore: Punjab University Academic Staff Association has strongly condemned Lahore Development Authority on issuing one-sided press release regarding construction of road on the prime land of Punjab University.

In an emergency meeting of ASA executive body held here on Saturday, the ASA office-bearers took strong notice the news item appeared in press and said that no decision had been taken so far to construct road on university land and a dialogue was under process between Punjab University administration and Punjab Education Minister.

They said the Competent Authority, the Syndicate, was authorized to approve any decision in this regard. He said that in the current situation, such press statements were a tantamount to the act of high irresponsibility. They said that earlier, a piece of land of PU Hailey College of Banking and Finance, Old Campus was acquired by the LDA and an agreement was signed between PU and DG LDA Ahad Cheema.

But, they said, the DG LDA had failed to measure up the terms of the agreement upon which there was annoyance and anger among PU teachers, employees and students. The ASA called upon the government that such a controversial and highly irresponsible officer must be removed from his office as he was bringing bad name to the government.

The ASA lauded the attitude of Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood in this matter and said that he had positive thinking and wanted to resolve all the issues amicably. However, the said LDA official was creating problems in the matter, they added.
