PPLA has announced to withdraw its ultimatum for protest

Lahore:PPLA has announced to withdraw its ultimatum for protest to press their demand for implementation of its 16-point agenda after having successful negotiation with Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan regarding implementation of 4-tier formula for promotion of teachers of government colleges have met success after which .Minister Education Rana Mashud Ahmad

Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that problems of a highly educated class like doctors and teaches should be resolved before they have to take to the streets. He assured the representatives of professors and lecturers that besides implementation of 3:19:36:42 formula for promotion, the genuine rights of young lecturers would also be upheld. It was decided that the seniority lists of the college teachers would be updated within next three months. It was also decided that the number of vacancies in all colleges affiliated with Higher Education Department Punjab will be recalculated while data of lecturers recruited in 2012 will be collected within two months to regularize their services. The meeting also decided that the next phase of negotiations would be held on Wednesday, April 02, 2014 in which Provincial Minister for Education, Secretary Higher Education, Secretary Law, Provincial Secretary Finance and prominent educationist Prof. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi will also participate.

The Minister informed that a five percent increase has been witnessed in the enrollment rate in government colleges and Punjab government has sent requisition to Punjab Public Service Commission for recruitment of 4,500 lecturers against new posts on permanent basis. He informed that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has allocated initial funds of two billion rupees for constitution of Higher Education Commission Punjab which will help set up new universities instead of upgrading the existing government colleges to universities.

President Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association Dr. Zahid Shaikh, General Secretary Syed Tanvir Ahmed Shah, Senior Vice President Hanif Abbasi, Secretary Information Riaz Mehboob, Vice President Women Wing Amna Minto, Joint Secretary Samina Bhatti, Vice President Ms. Hajira Akhtar, President PPLA Lahore Division Iftikhar ud Din Sohail, General Secretary Mujib ul Islam, Provincial Vice Presidents Rizwan ul Haq and Sohail Bashir and Members Executive Kashif Mahmood and Rana Nahir attended the meeting.
