PEF will adopt 75 community schools

Punjab Education Foundation-1Lahore: Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) will adopt 75 community schools established in the arid areas of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan districts to provide free school education to the students.

A spokesman of the Punjab Education Foundation disclosed this in a statement issued here today.

According to the spokesman, these schools will be run under New School Program (NSP) model of free education enunciated by the foundation.

PEF’s Director (NSP) Mr. Waqar has completed field inspections of these non-formal schools which were originally set up by the Cholistan Development Authority to give education to the children of Cholistan dwellers.

The spokesman further told that NSP was launched with the explicit objective to allure private sector entrepreneurs to set up schools in distant and remote areas where schools are scarce or absent altogether. It has successfully filled the gap and provided a convenient opportunity to the marginalized communities to send their children to these schools for gratis education.

Under this program, besides provision of free text books to the students enrolled in NSP partner schools, PEF also pays monthly grant on per student basis, the spokesman added.

Punjab Education Foundation is the public private partnership-based most successful model of free education which is giving free education to 1.4 million deserving students through partners schools in all the 36 districts of Punjab, concluded the spokesman.
