Pakistan Army war wounded won the hearts in PYF-2014

The disabled army men, who lost their different body parts in wars, participated in the Crutches Race, Wheelchair Race And Archery And Football Events. Governor Punjab Ch. M. Sarwar graced the occasion as chief guest. Rangers’ band displayed an impressive drill in front of the stage.

The Paralympics event was started with the Football Competition in which Army White edged out Army Red 1-0. Naseer of Army Red scored the match-winning goal. The 100 Metre Bladders Race was held among five players and gold went to M. Yaseen while Noor Shad earned second and Atif Bashir third position. In 100 Metre Crutches Race, Arif Hussain outplayed others and won the race while Zaheer Abbas was second and M Ashfaq was third. The 50 Metre Wheelchair Race title went to Rahmat Kareem while Atif Bashir was runner-up and Umar Farooq stood third.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Punjab Ch. Sarwar said: “I am proud of my Ghazi soldiers who did wonders in the battle field and kept the green flag high. Though I have witnessed Paralympics events in various parts of the world but the passion Pakistan Army soldiers showed is really commendable.”

Lauding the services of Army, the chief guest said: “I would like to pay tribute to Pakistan Army that instead of letting its soldiers in their homes, it utilized their skills despite their disability and keeps on providing healthy activities to them.”

Mr. Governer also greeted Pakistan Army’s contingent for their brilliant performance they displayed during the event. The disabled players thanked the Chief Minister Punjab Mian M. Shahbaz and his vision of holding the Punjab Youth Festival successfully which provided them opportunity to exhibit their prowess.
