Toppers visit GCU, vows to promote nationalism

Toppers_ visit _GCU,_ vows to _promote_ nationalism Toppers_ visit _GCU,_ vows to _promote_ nationalism Toppers_ visit _GCU,_ vows to _promote_ nationalismLahore: Government College University, Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kahleeq-ur-Rahman Monday called upon the toppers from all provinces of Pakistan to promote nationalism, harmony and peace and avoid regional racism. “Pakistan is our identity in the world and we need to utilise all our energies for its development,” said Prof Rahman while talking to a delegation of 60 top position-holders of intermediate from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Sindh, who came to visit the 150th year-old Government College University, Lahore and other universities of Lahore on the invitation of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Talking to the toppers, the Vice Chancellor said that GCU did not require any domicile and students from any province could get admission in it on merit. He said GCU had always encouraged questioning, difference of opinion and argument, besides teaching tolerance to students; tolerance towards the faith, beliefs, religion and ideas of other people.

 

The position-holders, during their visit at GCU, witnessed the original Nobel Prize that was received by eminent Old Ravian Dr Abdus Salam for his outstanding contribution in Physics. The Nobel Prize remained the centre of attraction among the position holders and they were briefed in detail about the life and achievements of Dr Salam. Dr Salam had studied at Government College from 1942 to 1946 and had taught there from 1951 to 1954.

Talking to media, Mir Muhammad, a position holder student from Balochistan, said that he was very happy to see Punjab but the development projects like Metro Bus and IT Tower should also be carried out in Balochistan. He believed injustices led the people of Balochistan to insurgency, but now the federal and provincial government were making sincere efforts to restore peace in the province.

Gul Badeen, another topper from Balochistan, said that law and order situation in Balochistan was improving. He desired to get admission in GCU and aimed to take CSS exam in future and endeavour his skills to serve the country.

Expressing her excitement, Nida Zahra from Gilgit-Baltistan, said that she wanted to visit the GCU and the Punjab Chief Minister fulfilled her wish. “Could there be an educational institute like GCU in her province,” she wished.

A student from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muhsen, said that there should also be a person like Shahbaz Sharif in the administration of AJK. He aspired to become an engineer in future.

An engineering student, Ghulam Qadir from Gilgit-Baltistan, said that he would introduce new technology and methods to generate electricity and end load shedding from the country.

Syeda Amna Hassan from Abbottabad lauded the activities of Punjab Youth Festival and Metro Bus Service in Lahore.
