Pervez Musharraf is not a traitor: Ch Shujaat Hussain

Ch Shujaat HussainLahore: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President and former Prime Minister Senator Ch Shujat Hussain has maintained that General (R) Pervez Musharraf was former commander of the army not a traitor, he can be alleged as breaker of the Constitution (aeen shikan).

Talking to media at Karachi airport today in response to a question about lawlessness in Karachi, Ch Shujat Hussain said that law and order in Karachi can only be brought under control and improved politically, it was not a question of interference in matters of Karachi, this was a political matter which has deteriorated.

Replying to another question, he maintained that he has not taken u-turn but right turn in the case of General Pervez Musharraf. He went on to state pointedly that right turn because this was not a matter of only General Pervez Musharraf but concerned the entire army. He said when our army jawan sitting on Siachen will get the news that his commander was a traitor then first thing which will come to his mind would be that he (commander) betrayed the country, perhaps he had joined hands with India or some other enemy country as he knows about Article 6 and who will go and tell him about Article 6. He said, because of this reason, he has submitted a resolution in the Senate for effecting changes in some provisions of Article 6 as he has also stated earlier also that word ‘treason’ (ghaddari) should be removed and it should described as breaking of the Constitution (aeen shikni).

Afterwards, Ch Shujat Hussain visited the residence of Founder Chairman of ARY Group Haji Abdul Razzaq Yaqoob to offer condolence his demise. He offered his heartfelt grief and sorrow over passing away of Haji Abdur Razzaq Yaqoob with Haji Iqbal, his son Salman Iqbal and other members of the bereaved family and paid glowing tributes to the departed soul for his meritorious services.
