Munawar Hasan again comes forward to defend Taliban

Syed Munawar HassanLahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that the 1973 constitution was based on the Quran and the Sunnah, and if it was  implemented it letter and spirit, no one including the Taliban would have any objection in this regard.

In an interview with a private TV channel on Wednesday, he said that  persistent violation of the constitution by the rulers comprising feudal lords and capitalists had created a totally wrong impression about it. He said the rulers themselves were the biggest hurdle in the implementation of the constitution which created the impression of Pakistan being a state without a constitution.

If the government guaranteed the implementation on the constitution, most of the issues would be resolved automatically, he said. On the other hand, if the constitution and the law were not given due importance and important decisions were taken under outside pressure, the constitutional institutions would become weak, and the confidence of the masses in these would end.

He said, although the country had one of the best constitutions in the world, the rights of the people were being usurped and financial policies were being framed on the dictation of IMF and the World Bank. Foreign and internal policies were being framed keeping in view the US and India’s interests instead of the national interests.

In reply to a question, Syed Munawar Hasan said that the US was an open enemy of Islam and the Muslims and had massacred millions of Muslims in different parts of the world. He said that Osama Bin Laden became hero of the oppressed Muslims all over the world because he raised his voice against the brutalities and oppression of the US. He said if the government announced withdrawal from the US war, there would be immediate peace in the country. .

In regard to a question relating to his earlier interview, Syed Munawar Hasan said that the Karbala tragedy had been a clash between the tyrant and the oppressed in which Imam Husain( RA) and his companions were on the right path while Yazeed was wrong. He said that in the Sifeen war, the Sahaba (companions) had been on the both sides. He said that in the karbaba tragedy, there had been no Companions on either sides and his talk in the previous interview had been in the context of the Siffeen war.

To a question regarding female education, the JI chief posed a counter question: How could the Taliban opposed education of their daughters when the Holy Prophet (PBUH) had enjoined that acquisition of knowledge was mandatory both for the Muslim n men and women.

However, he said that, the way western culture was being promoted in different educational institutions in the country and immoral programmes were being presented, it could not be approved by the majority of the parents.
