India to participate in Punjab Youth Festival 2014

2 (3) 3 (2) 4Lahore: The three-day Pakistan India Punjab Games which are one of the major parts of the Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) 2014, will get roll into action from 2nd March in which athletes of both the countries will exhibit their prowess.

The 99-member delegation of Indian Punjab, comprising 82 players and 17 officials, will reach the city via Wahga Border on 1st March.The competitions between the sports arch-rivals will be held at different venues of the city Lahore. Punjab Stadium will host the events of Mud-Wrestling, Tug-Of-War, Arm-Wrestling (Men And Women) And Kabaddi (Men And Women) While Bodybuilding And Weightlifting events will be held at Alhamra Cultural Complex while Mat-Wrestling will be organised at Gymnasium Hall NPSC.

The training camps for the Pakistan India Games are in full swing and the players have been preparing well. The teams were selected on Open Trials Basis and the selected ones have been provided with all the basic and modern facilities.

Talking to Media, Director General Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Mr. Usman Anwar said: “Pakistan-India Games will help in strengthening relations of both the countries. All the arrangements in this regard have been completed at various venues of the city. The sports loving people will reach to encourage the favourite sons of the Nation.”

“Last year, our team visited India to take part in the Kabaddi World Cup where our players performed well. This time, Indian Punjab team is coming to Pakistan and players of both the countries will lock horns against each other to promote this traditional game.”

Speaking on the occasion, Manager of Pakistan Delegation of Pakistan India Games Waqas Akbar said: “The players have started hard training to give tough time to Indian Punjab players and they are very excited. I hope our players will perform well and earn laurels for the country.”
