Growers should adopt sanitary measures for maximum export of “Kinno”

Lahore: Growers should adopt sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures to ensure maximum export of “Kinno”.

The spokesman of Punjab Agriculture Department has informed the growers about challenges and constraints in “Kinno” export due to fruit fly and pesticide residues. Due to these threats, Kinno export is banned in European Union and facing problems in China, Iran, Russia, Philippine and USA.

Farmers should adopt integrated pest management practices to control fruit fly and to check excessive and blind use of pesticides. The spokesman told that sanitary and phyto-sanitary (SPS) agreement of World Trade Organization encourages member states to follow international standards and to frame own rules. However, the agreement discourages the member countries to use SPS measures as protectionism in disguise.
