Military operation in Karachi would worsen the situation:Munawar Hasan

syed munawar hasanLahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan has warned  that military operation in Karachi would worsen the situation further after which no state institution would be able to control it.

Talking to different delegations at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said the only way to improve the situation in the port city was to give full powers to the police and rangers for carrying out an indiscriminate surgical operation ignoring political interference or opposition.

He said the MQM which was demanding military operation in Karachi now had always opposed interference by the army and the statements of MQM leaders in this regard during the last two years were a matter of record.

Syed Munawar Hasan said the report about the disappearance of 19,000 containers carrying arms was an eye-opener. He said the Shipping Ministry had been with the MQM. According to the report, most of these arms had been distributed in Karachi after which the blood shed in the city increased.

He said, the responsibility of the blood shed in the mega city lay with the political parties in the previous government who had been patronizing the criminals. He said the issue of Karachi could not be solved unless the political interference stopped.

About the Pak- Taliban talks, Syed Munawar Hasan said that the difference of opinion had delayed the talks. He said, as too many cooks spoiled the broth, similarly, different government spokesmen had harmed the talks process. He said in principle, only the Interior Minister should have explained the government policy, the Taliban representatives and the government officials should have finalized the agenda after which the talks should have been started. However, he said, the dillydallying by the government and its slavish attitude had seriously harmed the national solidarity and sovereignty. He said time and again, an excuse was made as to with which Taliban group, the talks should be held, although the high ups in the government and the military agencies fully knew all the Taliban groups and also knew whom t talk to.

On the performance of the provincial governments, he said, none of  the provincial governments could not take any single step independently. The provincial authorities could not control terrorist activities without the consent and active support of the federal government while the federal government had not taken any step to eradicate terrorism and for the restoration of peace in Khyber P and Balochistan. He said although the PML(N) was a party to the Balochistan government, it had not taken any step to solve peoples problems as the sole agenda of the present government seemed to be to make life difficult for the masses through raise in prices of POL, gas, and electricity.
