JI has dismissed new local government bill:Liaqat Baloch

Liaqat Baloch 1Lahore:  Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the local bodies elections must be held on party basis and the provincial governments should complete legislation in this respect at the earliest.

Talking to media men at the Lahore airport on his return from Karachi on Monday, he said that the federal and the local bodies should be given adequate financial and administrative powers for the solution of their people’s problems. The provincial government should also strengthen their audit and monitoring systems, he added.

Liaqat Baloch said, there were reports of troops deployment in the bye elections in Karachi. He said in the May11 general elections, all the political parties from Karachi had demanded troops deployment to ensure fair and free polling but no one gave heed to this demand, thus the MQM was allowed to hijack the public mandate.

He said the bye elections in Karachi were of no significance. He said the decision to deploy army men in the by elections was an indicator that the care taker governments and the Election Commission had made a wrong decision in the general elections due to which the people of Karachi and Hyderabad were deprived of their g right to vote in a free atmosphere, and added that the remedy lay in holding fresh elections on all NA and PA seats from Karachi and Hyderabad under the supervision of the army.

Commenting on the flood situation, Liaqat Baloch said that India had released excessive water which was playing havoc in this country. Besides, he said, that unlawful occupations on the river courses with the connivance of the government machinery was  obstructing the smooth flow of the flood water.

Liaqat Baloch called for prompt help and relief to the flood affected people and said that the JI volunteers were already busy in the task.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Bakhtiar Kasuri called on Liaqat Baloch at his residence and stressed the need for a common strategy by the opposition parties in the bye elections. .
