PRESERVATION WORK OF LHC BUILDING STARTS NEXT WEEK

Building of LHCLahore: The Hon’ble Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial has asked the Buildings Department to start by next week preservation work of Eastern Wing of Lahore High Court Building and complete it as early as possible.

Today, Mr. Kamil Khan Mumtaz, a renowned architect, gave briefing to the Hon’ble Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Sheikh Najam ul Hasan, Mr. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Mr. Justice Anwar ul Haq on the recommendations made by the Preservation Committee of LHC. According to Mr. Kamil, the scheme regarding preservation of Eastern Wing of Lahore High Court will cost Rs.44.756-Million and the work has been allotted to the contractor for its immediate execution.

Hon’ble Chief Justice had constituted a Preservation Committee comprising Hon’ble Mr. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah (Chairman), Mr. Justice Muhammad Anwar ul Haq and Mr. Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan (Members) to spruce up the Lahore High Court building in order to regain its aesthetic beauty.

The Committee has been assigned the task of necessary renovation without disturbing the cultural heritage of the splendid structure. In order to accomplish the task, the Hon’ble Chief Justice procured the services of architect Mr. Kamil Khan Mumtaz. The Preservation Committee held series of meetings with the consultant as well as other concerned functionaries of the Buildings, Architecture and Archaeology Departments and finalized its recommendations with regard to preservation work.

The Lahore High Court, Lahore is one of the oldest ad historic buildings of the country. It was declared “Special Premises” in the Punjab Special Premises (Preservation) Ordinance 1985. The building is now in need of special care as some of its portions are being damaged and affected.
