MAURITANIAN JUDGES CALL ON CHIEF JUSTICE LHC

Chief Justice LHC (2)Lahore:  A three-member delegation headed by Justice Sidi Yahefdhou, Chief Justice of Islamic Republic of Mauritania, called on Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial here Saturday.

The delegation also included Justice Ba Moukhtar and Justice Cheikh Atih Cheikh Ahmad Mahmoud, judges of the Supreme Court of Mauritania. The dignitaries from both Islamic countries exchanged views on dispensation of justice. The LHC chief justice briefed the Mauritanian delegation about the judicial hierarchy of the Province. The chief justice of Mauritania also explained the judicial system of his country and the working of its Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial led the distinguished guests to various parts of the splendid Lahore High Court building and said that the structure was an amalgamation of various cultures with minarets of Muslim, Hindu and Christian Holy places. It manifests that justice be given to all without discrimination of religion, sect or creed.

The visiting judges asked questions about the history of the Lahore High Court and its majestic building which were answered by the chief justice. The chief justice also told them about the two living legends of 125 years old on the premises of Lahore High Court – a fountain of golden marble of Rajasthan and five Bohar trees.

Later, the chief justice presented a shield and gifts to the delegates as a token of respect and a gesture of goodwill. Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court Agha Rafiq Ahmad Khan, Justice Sh. Ahmad Farooq of FSC and judges of the Lahore High Court were also present.

Later on, the Hon’ble delegation also met the Governor of Punjab and visited historical places like Mausoleum of Allam Iqbal, Lahore Fort and Badshahi Masjid.
