American Cosulates’s Political Officer calls on Raja

Lahore: Political Officer of American Consulate Dionandrea Dee Shorts met Provincial Minister for Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwar at Social Security Institute Lahore today. Matters of mutual interest and the affairs regarding Labour Department came under discussion during the meeting. Political Assistant to American Consulate Sadaf Saad and Secretary Labour Muhammad Yousuf were also present on the occasion.

The Minister said that the government is taking all out steps for the welfare of the labourers and in this connection a huge amount has been allocated in the budget. He told the Political Officer that the salary of a labourer has been fixed at minimum of Rs.10,000/month which would be gradually increased to Rs.15,000/-. He said the during the previous tenure, Social Security Institution constructed free of cost houses for labourers in Lahore and Muzaffargarh districts under labour-friendly policy of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Similarly, two thousand more houses would be constructed for the labourers during the current fiscal year, he concluded.

Secretary Labour Muhammad Yousuf while giving briefing told the meeting that besides provision of facilities of education, health, marriage grant is also being provided to the labourers. American Political Officer assured provision of cooperation to the Punjab government for raising the living standard of the labourers.
