Mushahid presents Defence Committee report to Senate

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman Defence Committee, briefing the members about the first comprehensive report and website.[1]Lahore: The Chairman of the Senate Defence & Defence Production Committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, presented the latest report of the Committee before the Senate. Speaking on the occasion, while laying the Report, Senator Mushahid referred to the work of the Committee on revival and restructuring of the Airports Security Force (ASF), including preparing and passing legislation.

Senator Mushahid Hussain also referred to the Defence Committee’s role in promoting harmony between Khaki and Mufti, the civil and military, particularly expressing solidarity with the Armed Forces in the wake of military martyrs in the aftermath of firing across the Line of Control.

He also said the Defence Committee had arranged special briefings for its members on the Defence Budget, the Defence Housing Authorities (DHA), and in a first for the Parliament Public Hearings on civil-military relations and Counter-Terror Strategy, with specialists and experts invited from outside the Parliament to present professional briefings before the Defence and Defence Production Committee, which remains the only parliamentary committee having its own website.

The 5th Report of the Committee also includes a letter of appreciation from the Chief Justice of Pakistan in which he expressed ‘appreciation for the Defence Committee’s resolve to present a new vision for national defence’ as well as details of the interactions with visiting delegations of the Command & Staff College, Quetta, the Foreign Service Academy, Islamabad, delegation of Military Attaches of the European Union and meeting with the Senate Delegation from Thailand.

Senator Mushahid thanked the members of the Defence Committee for their cooperation and support to ensure the successful working of the Committee, plus the Senate Secretariat and the Committee’s own secretariat led by Special Secretary, Amjed Pervez, and SPS, Riaz Khan.
