pic syed munawar hasan june 1stLahore:  The Jamaat e Islami has decided to play the role of an effective,  constructive opposition in the National Assembly and three provincial assemblies except in the Khyber P, where it would be coalition partner in the government.

This was decided by the JI central Shoora at its day meeting held at Mansoora with the JI Ameer, Syed Munawar Hasan, in the chair,

“ Jamaat e Islami’s ’s policy towards the new federal and the provincial governments would not be that of  “Opposition for Opposition sake” as it would cooperate in every noble task but resist every evil and sinful activity at every level, a resolution adopted by the Shoora said.

In the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province, where the party was a coalition partner in the government, the JI would endeavour for reforms, according to its election manifesto.  The JI central consultative body noted that massive rigging and electoral malpractices in certain areas had rendered the polls in Karachi, Hyderabad and FATA and Balochistan doubtful and unreliable, and therefore called for fresh polls in all these areas under the armed forces’ supervision.

However, while accepting the election results as a whole, the Shoora stressed upon the new government to steer the country out of the mire of the problems created by Pervez Musharraf and the PPP government afterwards. It also called for the trial of the military dictator for subverting the constitution, disgracing the superior courts, besides the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti, the girl students at the Jamea Hafsa, and stressed that all ways of  Musharraf’s fleeing from the country be closed.

It pointed out that besides fulfilling their promises to the nation for reforms and good governance, the new rulers would have to protect Pakistan’s independence and sovereignty, its ideology and cultural values and find quick solution to the peoples economic problems.

The Shoora stressed upon the treasury benches and the opposition in the National Assembly to jointly evolve a national policy to safeguard the national independence and sovereignty so that the nation and the parliament could play an effective role against the colonial designs of the world powers. It assured JI’s full support to the rulers in every courageous and bold policy on this score. It also warned that if the nation’s high priorities were ignored, the national integrity would suffer heavily.

The JI Shoora also demanded a categorical declaration from the new government that the normalization of relations with India and trade would be linked to the solution of the Kashmir issue in the light of the UN Security Council resolutions guaranteeing the right of self determination to the Kashmiris, the rivers water’s issue, the Sia Chen, Sir Kreak and India’s involvement in terrorism in this country.

The JI Shoroa also stressed that drone attacks be stopped and honest efforts be made for the recovery of the nation’s respected daughter Dr A’fia besides solving the missing persons’ issue.

The Shoora urged the new government both in the centre and the provinces to  give high priority to the issue of terrorism and search out the way of talks with the Taliban to secure the life and property of the people. The US designs to subvert the talks should be foiled and a mechanism for the restoration of peace be found out by ending military operations and drone attacks.

The JI Shoora also called for immediate action against corrupt officers, officials of the power supplying institutions to end the energy crisis.

Meanwhile, June one: Jamaat e Islami’s deputy Naib Ameer, and Senior Minister in the Khyber P. Sirajul Haq, called on the JI Ameer, Syed Munawar Hasan, at Mansoora, Saturday afternoon, and presented to him a report of the priorities in the provincial government.

At the meeting, the over all situation of the country besides the challenges facing the Khyber P government came under discussion.

At the meeting, the JI Ameer said that all the parliamentary parties should make collective efforts to solve the problems before the federal and the provincial governments. He noted that the US presence in the region and terrorism were the biggest issue of the country and added that terrorism could not be controlled without the US withdrawal from the region. He pointed out that drone attacks were causing an upsurge in the terrorism.

Sirajul Haq told the JI Ameer that restoration of peace and end to load shedding were the top priorities of the Khyber P government, adding that the situation demanded a cooperation of the federal government, on this score. He said the Khyber P government would fully cooperate with the centre in eliminating terrorism.

He said that the law and order was also a big issue which was not merely an issue concerning the police force alone. This was a political issue and must be solved on political lines. He added that the roots of the law and order issue lay on the both sides of the Pak Afghan border and the federal and the provincial government should jointly seek its solution.
