Caretakers should provide relief from load shedding: Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: Punjab chief minister-designate Shahbaz Sharif Tuesday said that instead of reshuffling bureaucracy and issuing licenses for CNG stations, the caretaker government should focus on providing relief to people who are braving hours of load shedding a day.

“Like the PPP, the interim government has also been callous towards power outages,” Shahbaz said while addressing the party leadership. “Reverting to two-day weekly off is not a permanent solution. Instead, there is need to generate more power, curb line losses and power theft and act against those officers who show negligence in collection of electricity bills.”

The CM-designate said that PML-N government would take stern against those who stole power. “We will take prompt action against power theft and make sure that every household in the country has access to uninterrupted power supply,” he said.

Shahbaz said that PML-N government has decided to chalk out a five-year programme in order to achieve its goal of development in Punjab. For the purpose, he added, a committee had already started working on ways to enhance production, minimize non-development expenditures and increase resources in the provinces.

Later talking to reporters before leaving for London, Shahbaz said that the PML-N was committed to acting against those who stole power, adding, “We will provide relief to people by generating more electricity.”
