Rescue 1122 organizes Training Course for Disaster Response

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has organized second pilot Training Course of Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) in Pakistan on Thursday. The Course was organized for the Community of Shahdara Lahore in collaboration with Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC), Bangkok, NDMA and USAID. The CADRE trainings have also been conducted in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines and Vietnam. The training contents of this course include as Common Community Hazards, Family needs, Prioritizing patients in Disasters, Basic First Aid, Search and Rescue and Fire Safety.

While addressing the participants of the training course, the Director General Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that although the Service had already established an effective Emergency Management System in all districts of Punjab but active community participation would be a milestone towards prevention of emergencies. The DG said that this CADRE Program will create awareness to adopt preventive measures and preparation for disasters in all respective localities to promote safety culture in Pakistan. Dr. Rizwan Naseer also asked the trained community members to review of their training on monthly basis for capacity building and utilize available local resources for prevention of emergencies. He sincerely hoped that by learning such trainings, one day the communities of Pakistan shall be able to cope with routine wise emergencies and would save lives.

Earlier, a New Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) Program was conducted in collaboration with ADPC which aimed to bring down the training of emergency response to the grass root level. The purpose of this program was to strengthen and to institutionalize capacities for Emergency Response and Disaster Management to reduce mortality in Mass Casualty Incidents and to increase the survival rate of disaster victims.
