The Punjab province swimmers clinched the Pakistan Sports Board Inter-provincial Under-14 Swimming Championship title after it secure 211 points at Islamabad on Wednesday.
The championship which was held at Islamabad Sports Complex pool from April 15 to 17 saw Punjab swimmers create another four national records in 50 metres freestyle, 50 metres back stroke and 50 metres butterfly.
Punjab’s Mohammad Rizwan after gaining 100 points alone was declared the best and fastest swimmer of the championship. For his achievement Rizwan also pocketed Rs 10,000 from chief guest Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Perzada.
Punjab which created three national records on the opening day, established another four through Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Hamza.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 96 points was placed second while Islamabad with 64 points was third. Balochistan 28 and FATA two were fourth and fifth in the championship.
Lahore: On the day five events were held and in all of them Punjab swimmers won gold medals.
In 50 metres freestyle, Rizwan set a new record with a timing of 31.62 seconds and was followed by Mohammad Hamza of Punjab and Hussaid Ahmed of KPK.
In 100 metres freestyle, Rizwan won another gold medal for Punjab while Hamza got silver and Hussaid bronze.
In 50 metres backstroke, Hamza set a new mark of 41.65 seconds to get gold whgile Abdur Rehman also of Punjab was second and Ali Abbas of Balochistan was third.
In 50 metres butterfly, Rizwan won his third gold medal by setting a new record of 36.19 seconds. Azam Khurshid of Islamabad and Farhan Shahid of KPK were second and third in the category.
Earlier, Punjab won gold medals in 200 metres freestyle, 100 metres breaststroke, 100 metres backstroke and 100 mertes butterfly.
