Alternative sources will be promoted for generating energy: Arif Ejaz

Care Taker MinisterLahore: Caretaker Provincial Minister for Energy, Environment, Industries & Commerce, Arif Ejaz has said that alternative sources will have to be promoted for generating energy in the province. He said that the shortfall of electricity can be reduced by using solar and biogas energy along with hydle and coal energy. He said that side by side public-private institutions, educational institutions will have to carry out research work jointly and introduce new trends.

He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting in Energy Department today which was attended by senior officers of the department. The Minister said that short-term and long-term strategies will have to be adopted to overcome energy crises besides taking effective steps for generating energy from alternative sources. He said that by working on solar and biogas energy projects we can overcome shortfall within two to three years in Punjab. He said that there is a need to introduce modern techniques in the energy sector besides introducing energy auditing system for ensuring proper utilization of available resources and we will have to acquire the services of experts in this regard. Tariq Ejaz emphasized upon the need to improve Electric Inspector Monitoring process so that wastage of energy and misuse sources could be checked. He said that investment opportunities should be provided to private sector and foreign investors to increase energy in the province.

Additional Secretary Energy, Khalid Awais Ranjha briefed the meeting regarding on-going projects in the province. The meeting also discussed in detail the problems in the energy sector and their resolution.
