Lahore: Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Najam Sethi has said that maximum resources will be utilized for further improvement of law and order and security situation for the peaceful and transparent conduct of elections as it is the need of the hour. He said that effective security measures will be adopted for the public meetings and rallies of political parties. He said that government is ready to take even tough decisions for maintaining law and order. He said that the responsibility given to the caretaker government will be discharged as a national obligation and every effort will be made for the holding of general elections in a peaceful, impartial and transparent manner.
He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding law and order and security at Chief Minister’s Secretariat. Secretary Home, Inspector General Police, senior police officers and the concerned officers were present. The Caretaker Chief Minister reviewed the security measures in detail for conduct of general elections as well as overall law and order situation of the province. Addressing the meeting, Najam Sethi said that maintenance of law and order is the priority of the government and all out measures will be taken for this purpose. He said that the caretaker government will utilize all its energies for holding of general elections in a free, fair and transparent manner as it is its national responsibility.
The Caretaker Chief Minister directed police to take all necessary steps for further improving law and order. He said that caretaker government is fully prepared to meet the security challenge. He said that protection of life and property of the people is the responsibility of police and it should utilize all its energies and resources for curbing crime and ensuring civic peace. He said that instructions of Election Commission for holding of transparent and impartial elections should be implemented in letter and spirit.
He said that a peaceful atmosphere is essential for the election process. He directed the authorities concerned to further improve intelligence sharing network as well as keep a watchful eye on criminals and anti-social elements. The Caretaker Chief Minister was given a briefing on law and order and security measures for general elections.
