Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that completion of metro bus project worth Rs.30 billion in a record period of eleven months is a big achievement and the project symbolizes courage, determination and hard work. He said that metro bus project is a masterpiece of architecture and more than 1.25 lakh citizens are benefitting from this service daily. He said that metro bus project is unique with regard to its standard, transparency and speedy completion and provision of modern travelling facilities to the citizens has silenced those criticized this project.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held in the honour of members assemblies, government officers and contractors who worked on metro bus project. Members Assembly, Chairman Planning & Development and government officers and contractors of the project attended the ceremony. Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government has signed an agreement with Transparency International to judge the transparency of its projects worth Rs.36 billion. He said that NAB is mother of thieves and while the term of the governments is ending, it has had the idea of checking projects of Punjab government. He said that the nation wants to know has it taken any step to judge transparency of the projects of federal government and other provinces. But, we are ready to extend every cooperation to NAB, he added. He said that the largest underpass of Pakistan, Kalma Chowk has also been completed in a record period of 82 days to ensure smooth flow of traffic. He said that metro bus system will result in development and prosperity of Pakistan. He said that projects like metro bus should be started in all big cities of the country. He said that there is no dearth of resources in the country but we need commitment and hard work. He said that Pakistan can be made a great country through hard work, honesty and dedication.
Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif announced three crore rupees for the contractors and workers of the metro bus project while one crore rupees for the staff of DG LDA, Rs.30 lakh for the staff of CTO, Rs.20 lakh each for the staff of IT and PHA departments and Rs.10 lakh each for the staff of Commissioner Lahore, Urban Unit and Metro Bus. The Chief Minister thanked the entire team including contractors, heads of the institutions and government officers who played their role in the completion of metro bus project. The Chief Minister also distributed commendatory certificates among the contractors and government officers who worked on the project.
