Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said the horrible terrorist activities in Quetta, Karachi and Peshawar were a clear indication that the forces trying to destabilize Pakistan and prove it a failed state had stepped up their efforts.
In a statement here on Tuesday, he said it was unfortunate that while the entire nation was mourning over the large scale killings, the rulers remained unmoved. The recurrence of killings in Karachi proved the failure of the law enforcement institutions and intelligence agencies and the common man felt himself totally insecure, he added.
Liaqat Baloch said it was surprising that the Interior Minister Rehman Malik was linking every terrorist activity with the Taliban, whereas senior PPP leader, Senator Raza Rabbani had termed the recent killings in Quetta as reaction to the Pak-Iran gas pipe line project and the handing over of Gowadar port to China.
He said, the increasing events of terrorism and subversion in the country proved that as all other conspiracies to put off the elections had failed, the interested quarters had resorted to bloodshed of innocent citizens. However, he said, the democratic forces and the masses were unanimous that no one would be allowed to derail democracy.
He therefore called upon President Zardari to immediately announce election schedule, and added that it would be the responsibility of the care taker government, the Election Commission and the Supreme Court to ensure fair, free and transparent elections. He said that this would require fresh delimitation of the constituencies
and verification of the electoral lists in Karachi, besides a peaceful atmosphere in FATA and Balochistan.
