No hurdle in way of democratic transition: Kaira

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Wednesday said that there would be no hurdle in the way of smooth democratic transition in the country.

Pakistan is a functional democracy, he said this during a meeting with Ambassador of Belgium Peter Glaes here.He said that media was free, civil society was vibrant and judiciary was independent in the country.

Kaira said caretaker set-up would be established in accordance with the process laid down in the Constitution.He said continuity of democratic rule was the only solution to combat extremist mindset.

The minister was of the view that in the past extremism was used as a tool to defeat former Soviet Union.
