Food Department will purchase 40 lakh metric ton wheat

Lahore: Secretary Food Punjab, Irfan Ali has said that Food Department will purchase 40 lakh metric ton wheat at the rate of Rs. 1200 per maund during the current year and procurement process will be completed on merit in a transparent manner.
He stated this during a meeting held regarding procurement of wheat. Director Food Punjab Capt. ® Usman, Deputy Directors Food from all the divisions and officers from all the districts were present on the occasion.
Irfan Ali said that the gunny bags would be issued to the farmers on the basis of “Khasra Gardavri” and this time the small cultivators will be especially taken care of so that they could not be deprived of their rights.

Secretary Food directed all Deputy Directors of the divisions to hold meetings with DCOs of their concerned districts and make preparations regarding purchase of wheat in order to avoid any problem in future. He also directed to complete training of Center In-charges. He informed that this time 375 purchase centers would be set up throughout the province and besides sitting and cold drinking water arrangements for the farmers, cleanliness would be ensured at all the centers. He said that a complaint cell would also be set up at the Directorate for facilitation of farmers which will take immediate action on the complaints of the farmers.

Director Food Capt. (Retd) Usman informed that 1,480,000 metric ton wheat is available with Food Department and nine lakh eighty thousand metric ton wheat would be issued to the flour mills till April 15 while five lakh metric ton wheat would be kept in storage.
