Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that protection of life and property of the citizens is the prime responsibility of the police and it should perform its duties with honesty and commitment for creating a sense of safety among the citizens. He directed police to verify the evidence of heinous crimes from forensic science agency and utilize modern technology for curbing crime.
He was presiding over a high level meeting to review law and order situation in the province, here today. Special Assistant Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Members Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, Pervaiz Malik, Col.(R) Shuja Khanzada, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Advocate General Punjab, Chief Secretary Punjab, Secretaries of Home, Auqaf, Information, Prosecution, acting Inspector General of Police and other officers were present.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that peace is essential for rapid progress as well as promotion of investment and trade activities. He stressed the need for taking steps for further improving law and order situation and bringing anti-social elements and criminal gangs to justice. He further directed that a watchful eye should be kept on suspicious elements while patrolling system should be made more effective.
He said that for the purpose of preserving crime scene of heinous crimes, services of forensic science agency should be fully utilized. He said that challans of cases should be presented in the court of law as soon as possible. He directed to improve the accountability and monitoring system of police for improving its efficiency. He directed police officers that the process from registration of cases to investigation should be completed in a transparent manner and through organizational mechanism.
He further issued instructions for accelerating the campaign for the arrest of proclaimed offenders involved in heinous crimes. Acting Inspector General Police Khan Beg, gave a detailed briefing regarding overall law and order situation and crimes in the province.
