Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that, as a result of government’s steps, significant improvement has been registered in the travel through metro buses. He said police officials have been deputed inside buses and at stations to provide guidance to the passengers and to maintain law and order. He called upon the people to benefit from this great project of Punjab government with discipline, while travelling on metro bus service just for recreation should be discouraged. He said no one would be allowed to damage this great and precious asset made with the resources of the people. He directed Secretary Home to review formulation of separate security system for metro bus project on the pattern of Ring Road Police and submit recommendations at the earliest.
The Chief Minister was presiding over a meeting of steering committee on operational matters of metro bus system at Model Town, here today. Special Assistant Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan, Members Provincial Assembly Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmed, Hafiz Mian Nauman, Ramzan Siddique Bhatti, Secretaries Home and Information, Acting Inspector General Police Punjab, Commissioner Lahore Division, Chairman Information Technology Board, Managing Director Punjab Metro Bus Authority, CCPO Lahore, CTO Lahore, Director General LDA and other concerned officers were present. Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that metro bus system is now successfully operating and providing best and modern travelling facilities to the people and it is a system which has been completed with hard work, honesty and transparency. He said awareness has been created gradually among the people by elected representatives and government officers. He called upon Assembly Members and concerned authorities to effectively discharge their responsibilities collectively.
He said public address system should be installed at bus stations and Punjab Metro Bus Authority should discharge its duties in a professional manner, while best arrangements of sanitation should also be made inside buses and on metro bus routes. He directed that strict action should be taken against transport vehicles and persons, who disrupt metro bus route, along with ensuring security and protection of metro bus installations. He said after the great reception of splendid metro bus system, critics have now been silenced, as people know metro bus project has been made for their convenience.
He said metro bus project is a gift for the present and coming generations, which would further improve with the passage of time. He directed concerned authorities to ensure foolproof security of metro bus system and its installations by taking all necessary steps. Detailed review of operational matters of metro buses was taken during the meeting.
