CS Punjab calls DCO’s meeting to counter measles

Lahore: Chief Secretary Punjab, Nasir Mahmood Khosa has convened a meeting of DCOs of all the districts on February 09 in order to consider the situation arising from measles disease and to review the progress of implementation on the steps taken for checking this disease in the province. He directed Health Department to continue efforts with devotion and professional dedication for controlling this disease.

During the meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Punjab, the latest situation regarding measles disease in the province was reviewed. Secretary Health Punjab Arif Nadeem, Secretary Information & Culture Punjab Mohayuddin Wani, Director General Health Punjab Dr. Nisar Ahmed Cheema, Director Health (EPI) Dr. Tanveer Hussain, representative of World Health Organization Dr. Wende, Dr. Rana Mushtaq of UNICEF, Dr. Muhammad Aslam Chaudhary of Bill Gates Foundation, Member Provincial Steering Committee of EPI Prof. Tariq Bhutta and other officers attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that there is no shortage of measles vaccine in the province. Furthermore, nine lakh dosages of vaccine are available in the stocks of Health Department whereas 20 lakh dosages of measles vaccine would reach by air by February 08.

The Chief Secretary directed that case response and MOP UP campaign should be ensured in the area where measles patients are reported. He directed to provide best medical facilities to the measles patients and pay special attention to case management so that the children suffering from this disease could recover as early as possible.
