Justice is available only to those who can pay:Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that   justice is available only to those who can pay ,he expressed these views while presiding a high-level meeting at Model Town which reviewed law and order situation in the province. Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sana Ullah Khan, Advocate General Punjab, Secretary Home, Acting Inspector General of Police, Additional IGs, Prosecutor General Punjab, DIG Operations, DIG Investigation and officers concerned were present.

Shahbaz Sharif said that elimination of crime and setting up of a peaceful society is his mission. He said that protection of life, property and honor of citizens is the prime responsibility of police and it should utilize all its energies for the provision of justice to the masses and redressal of grievances of the aggrieved. He said that modern technology should be fully utilized for the eradication of crime and curbing of criminals. He said that indiscriminate action should be taken against the criminal elements irrespective of their influence as those societies lose their existence where justice is available only to those who can pay.

Chief Minister said that peace is essential for development, prosperity and promotion of economic activities as progress and uplift of the society is closely linked with provision of justice. He said that while injustice breeds crime and violence it also results in oppression and anarchy. Therefore, he said, there is a heavy responsibility on police to check oppression and help the aggrieved for which it will be rewarded in this world as well as the world hereafter. He said that demands of justice should be upheld in investigation of cases while investigation process should be completed at the earliest for submitting challans in the courts for ensuring due punishment to the criminals. The Chief Minister directed police authorities to investigate the cases on professional and scientific lines so that the criminals could be brought to justice. He said that police should curb the activities of criminals and bring such elements before the law so that law and order could be further improved in the society. He said that police should improve the atmosphere of police stations so that citizens could visit them without fear for the redressal of their grievances. He said that Punjab government has allocated maximum funds to the police and now it is its responsibility to give results. He directed police authorities to perform their responsibilities regarding further improvement of law and order with commitment and honesty.

It was informed in a detailed briefing to the meeting that the accused involved in the murder of a youth namely Bilal in Gowalmandi besides former DSP Jehangir Butt involved in narcotics case has been arrested while cases have been registered against six Qabza groups. It was further informed that crime rate has reduced in January 2013 as compared to January 2012 and law and order situation is satisfactory.
